Carpal Tunnel Relief

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a common condition that causes pain, numbness, and tingling in the hand and arm. The condition occurs when one of the major nerves to the hand — the median nerve — is squeezed or compressed as it travels through the wrist.

What is Carpal Tunnel?

A narrow passageway, called the carpal tunnel, exists within your wrist. Surrounding this tunnel are small wrist bones and connective tissue. Your median nerve passes directly through this tunnel providing feeling to your thumb, index, middle and ring fingers. It also helps control muscles at the bottom of your thumb. When aggravated by repeated stress, tissues around this tunnel swell placing pressure on the median nerve causing Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Numbness, tingling, burning and pain in the thumb and middle three fingers
Shock-like sensations radiating to the thumb and three middle fingers
Pain or tingling travelling up the forearm toward the shoulder
Weakness in the hand
Dropping things due to the symptoms above

How is Carpal Tunnel Treated?

For moderate cases, a doctor may recommend conservative treatment. This may include bracing, anti-inflammatory drugs, steroid injections or therapy. If these methods do not relieve your symptoms, your doctor may recommend surgery.
